Greek Australian furniture designer among the best in the world
Designer Helen Kontouris, who is from the Greek Diaspora in Australia is among the 100 best designers in the world and her furniture compete with another 99 works of designers in the contest 2010 "Brit Insurance Designs of the Year" in London.
The world famous company of designers chose her range of outdoor furniture called Breathe. Helen Kontouri’s works have been photographed for more than 100 magazines worldwide and they have already gotten much praise. The designer has participated in exhibitions in Italy, America, Spain, Germany, England and in many other countries, taking away with her the most flattering critiques of fashion experts, says the online article of Proto thema.
Spanish company Celda, German Ritzenhoff, Italian Kundalini, international company Schiavello are part of the companies that have made the promotion of the furniture the Greek designer on the world market. Apparently her talent was recognized and noticed by the best in the industry throughout the world.
Helen Kontouris is 33 years old and lives in Australia. Her dream is to sign the design of many more objects we use in our everyday life. She draws from the age of five and says that her love for design was kindled from her childhood years. Later she graduates interior spaces Design at RMIT and at the age of 22 she started her first job. In this highly competitive environment where designers with many years of experience and connections in the market have been well established, Helen managed to make it with her phantasmagoric furniture which she says are "pieces of a mosaic”.
Helen Kontouris using only environmentally friendly materials to create her furniture, in which femininity of ovals contradicts the strict lines. She defines her technique as "an organic femininity”. "I am inspired by the ovals of the female body, the colors of femininity the way I perceive it... I want my furniture to embrace the human body with a woman's tenderness, warmth and comfort. I want to create furniture with which people can connect emotionally. Because, for example, if you get used to an armchair, it will be very difficult for you to part with it. Our planet is filled with junk, objects that we use, we cannot contact them and ultimately we dispose of them. We never throw away something we have gotten loved." The natural materials and cultivation of human love to the object, Helen considers to be her best contribution to nature conservation.

Helen Kontouris gave a talk at the National Gallery of Victoria on her 101 chair which is part of the Cicely & Colin Rigg Design Award http://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/rigg2009/ The exhibition runs until the end of August 2009.
